Our plots of Gambassi Terme and Castellina in Chianti are 90% surrounded by woods, so as to create small ecosystems where it is easier to preserve the indigenous microfauna, essential for the healthy maintenance of our plants.
The Gambassi Terme plants stand exclusively on hilly areas from 250 to 300 m a.s.l., with west and south-west exposures. These conditions favor excellent exposure to winds and a great reduction in humidity, discouraging the onset of fungal diseases.
The composition of these soils, being emerged lands, is very rich in minerals, ranging from silt to clay, from limestone to tuff up to some strips of marl or sand.
These particularities added to our diversification of Sangiovese clones characterize the personality of each single plot, so much so that we prefer to vinify the vineyards individually to enhance all the facets.
The crops of Cispiano instead are located at about 480m s.l.m. on soils solely of alberese, rich in rocks from very ancient times. These conditions allow a slower ripening of the grapes than in Gambassi and preclude very important temperature changes for the pre-harvest period, giving fresher and more elegant aromas.
